Part 3

So Kris finally comes up to the high desert house after borrowing $10 from someone for gas...  He seemed to be normal. We didn't feel he was on drugs but how could we know we were not expecting him and left the drug test at home...

Anyway he had to be out of his apartment in 48 hours now... Sam talked to him... telling him he could stay at the high desert house until October 1st, then he had to be out because we were having a family reunion there for Thanksgiving.  Kris seemed to be shocked Sam said that... [what did he think he could live there forever? Who knows what he was thinking at the time]

Sam told him the rules "No ONE, is allowed up here Kris... NO ONE... you are supposed to be getting your life back on track and saving for another apartment, I will not be giving you any money for all the work your going to be doing up here... it goes for your new apartment... You will drug test any time I want... Stay out of our room, you can sleep in the other bedroom... you don't need to be in our room Kris... Stay out of the liquor and the beer... No long distance phone calls, Don't give ANYONE this phone number... these are our rules... if you think you can abide by them, then you can stay here... if you don't feel you can live by these rules Kris... that is ok too... we'll shake hands and you can go somewhere else"  Kris seemed grateful, said he could abide by the rules... asked if he could put his stuff from his apartment at our shop.  We said sure... then he asked to use the company truck to move the stuff...So Sam said "fine"...
He stated he would be moving the following day and then come up to the high desert ready to work and live on June 15th...
The next morning Kris was at the high desert ready to work... I remember thinking how in the hell did he move so damn fast? I would find out soon enough... Kris worked a full day and then fell asleep on the couch before we got ready to go back home... So we thought well at least he seems to be off the meth...
Sleeping, tired... etc... Hhhhmmm maybe he is ready to get his life together...
Oh I almost forgot, we had been bugging Kris about his unemployment he was supposed to be getting... So, Gram Pam got on our slow laptop computer and helped him fill out the forms... We had been getting on him about it since before his accident and he was always too busy doing nothing to handle it.

This was on a Friday... Saturday morning we got an email with photos from Tom, showing us exactly how Kris left his apartment... It was embarrassing to say the least... couch, clothes, papers, crap everywhere! It was a mess... Tom said "You know Sam, Kris left behind some momentos in all this stuff I am sure he will want later in life, I will box it up and bring it by your shop" Sam said "Thanks Tom, I am so sorry about all of this" Tom always liked Kris, thought he was a great kid who just got mixed up with some bad people in the last year... Tom was just the property manager, he had to answer to the owner... He had been covering Kris' ass about the drug stuff for the last few months. Now the owner was coming into to town and he was covering Kris' ass again by cleaning up the apartment Kris left in such a mess...
We were furious to say the least... but we didn't call Kris about it... he was out of the apartment FINALLY..
This was the Saturday before Father's Day... I think Sam and I headed over to the office that day... I went in the back of the shop to see how much stuff Kris had left there... He left a crappy dresser and two nightstands I wouldn't buy at a garage sale?  WTH? Where was his queen size bed? Where was all the stuff he had accumulated in 4 years? Where was his dishes? WHATEVER... No wonder that apartment was such a mess.. He pretty much left everything there...
Sunday Father's Day... Kris never even picked up the phone and called Sam... Sam said "Well we told him not to use the phone and make long distance phone calls"  again WHATEVER
Wednesday Kieffer and his posse headed to the high desert house to start working. I tried to ask Kieffer if Kris had done anything... but Kieffer was vague and I knew he wasn't going to rat out his brother but I could tell in his voice he wasn't happy... I have to be honest Sam and I were dragging our heels getting up there... I think we just didn't want to deal with Kris... We wanted to believe he was being good, working, etc... but deep down in our hearts we knew it wasn't the case.
Thursday morning, before we were heading up there... Sam got a call from Tom... The drug dealer Kris had living at his apartment for a while supposedly kicked in Kris' front door in the apartment... Tom was so angry, he wanted the guys name.  He wanted to press charges. The owner was coming that day and Tom was going to have to explain it to him...

To be continued...
