Dogs and snow and my son Star Trek

Good Friday morning you'all,
I know most of you are freezing back east... so I read the paper in the sunshine 'on the veranda' [that is a personal joke between Sam and I... We say in an upper crust type voice "Darling lets have a cup of coffee on the veranda this morning" "Oh yes lets do that"] translation - the backyard...
My 'Hollywood' dogs as Chrissie calls them
[however I do not know why as my dogs are not gay LOL]
were loving the morning sunshine also...
Here are some photos...
Bolts [Kam is a Charger's fan]
Gi Gi is in the planter an Rider is soaking up the sun.
As you can see GiGi still has paint on her...

I gave her another bath yesterday but it won't come off... Grrrr....

So anyway... I was reading Lisa Jo's entry this morning looking at all that snow and I have a question for all of you pet owners back east...
How in H E double hockey sticks do you get your pets to go outside and 'do their business' in the snow? When it is raining here its a nightmare for me to get them to go outside... I can NOT begin to imagine how you get a dog to go out in 32 degree weather... So I am asking... seriously I want to know... do you put newspaper or puppy pads on the porch or something?

[I know that seems like a stupid question but I have never LIVED in the snow. I just found out a couple of years ago that car doors freeze shut, and that you can't go out with wet hair!]

Anyway... on to other matters... LOL

You may be thinking... "Kendra you are leaving for Texas a week from today, how is it that you have so much time to write today" Well let me tell you... I am home alone... Whooooooo Hoooooo.... Sam and the boys are at Perris Raceway practicing for a HUGE race Saturday... This is a Loretta Lynn's Qualifier... Only the top 5 in the western U.S. get to go to Loretta Lynn's in July... The race is THE most important race of an amateur motocross racer. Just being able to say you went is a HUGE deal... We went in 2003, Kameron qualified and brought home a 6th place trophy... but we want to go back obviously... its a blast... we are trying to race all the big Nationals this year... Texas, Las Vegas, Ponca City Oklahoma, Loretta Lynn's in Tenn, then the only one we haven't raced are the Mini O's in Florida [Hi Roxymomma]
Too far...
Anyway... I just got off the phone with Candice... Guess who starts working at Disneyland next Friday in the costuming department... Yup SHE GOT THE JOB!!! Woo Hoo... Yaaaaa
Its only part time but she is hoping to get more hours, meanwhile she may also be working at Hoag hospital in Newport Beach part time! That would be great...

Let's see what else... ahhh yes you all were asking why Leenie and Kameron were not still together... That is a long story... plus he has a girlfriend named Amber right now.. He has had 4 serious girlfriends...
Stephanie [cheerleader who broke his heart at the beginning of 9 th grade] we do NOT like her... she was a stuck up bitch from hell... Candice called it from the beginning but we didn't see it till later...
Darlene [you know about my Leenie... long story short Kameron was an excellent boyfriend to her, spoiled her rotten, and she started acting spoiled sadly... bossing him around... just became a spoiled brat... I tried to talk to her about it but she didn't listen... he broke up with her]
Rachel [We also LOVE Rachel but she was another one who had some serious family problems... I helped Rachel get into college too, she plays on the Volleyball team here at College of the Desert]
Rachel has a bootie to die for... Pam's hubby Chuck calls her bubble butt

I once asked Kameron... What do you do take out an ad ...
'Wanted virgin girlfriend, no family involvement'
he didn't think it was funny... oh well...
I also call him Star Trek
'Because he boldly goes where no man has gone before'
Anyway he is now going out with Amber... We really wish he wasn't... as you can tell I never write about her... if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all... she is a nice girl but she is so immature [cries at the drop of a hat over nothing, and her eating junk food makes us crazy!]  Kameron gained a lot of weight the first year he was out of high school... He has lost 22 lbs trying to get back in shape to race MX... she will bring cookies and candy to the track to watch him race... I mean it doesn't help him, and I was use to Rachel who eats really good, drinks tons of water, goes to the gym, etc...
All his girlfriends have been athletes... Stephanie - cheerleader, Darlene was on the swim team and water polo team, Rachel was on the volleyball team and track team, and Amber was on the water polo team and track team...

Whatever... I keep the rubber jar filled because the last thing I want is for him to get any of them pregnant! I mean he is 20 years old... he's not a little kid anymore...
Well I better go do something before my hubby gets home and says 'What have you done all day? Floggin and Bloggin?'
Don't forget I really want to know about dogs going in the snow... seriously I do

LA traffic and a picture of the new trailer in the front yard

This is LA traffic!!! This is what we had to drive thru to get the trailer...   The trailer is at home! Woo Hoo and the guys are peeling 'the stupid looking flames' off the trailer

Leenie or Natalie can you tell the difference?

Super Quick entry because Sam and I have to run down to Benlo RV and then Cost Co...
this morning I wake up to Sam saying... "Honey, you should get up and come say Hi to Darlene" "Oh Wow, Darlene okay" I love Darlene... or as I call her 'My Leenie' she was Kameron's girlfriend in high school in 9th and 10th grade I believe... now she goes to SDSU [San Diego State] I believe this is her Sophomore year? Anyway... I adore Leenie, she is such a good girl and we practically raised her!  I paid for all the dresses she wore to the dances with Kameron... [she comes from a very poor family, who is not very active in her life] I am not kidding when I say she practically lived here.  I helped her get into college by writing recommendation letters [she volunteered hundreds of hours for the football team helping me] She was a GREAT influence on Kameron's life [he became Homecoming Prince and got a 4.0 All DVL Award] Anyway... I taught her a lot of things but most importantly to write Thank You notes ;)  After graduation she wrote one to me and one to Sam... I can't find mine right this minute so I will share the one she wrote to Sam...

Sam, Dad, friend, companion, politician, comedian, chef, handy-man, mechanic, vacation co-ordinator, counselor:
You've been all of the following to me, for the past four years. Since freshman year, you've been an important part of my life.  You introduced me to the world of motocross [which I still love!} took me to the track, let me experience the excitement of riding a dirt bike and watching the races. I found a new love for the smell of four stroke gas at 7am on a Sunday morning.  Thank you for the revealing of such an invigorating sport and for all the money and time spent to do that.
I'll never forget all the time we spent at the dinner table discussing political issues, eating one of your many finger licking meals.  You always helped me see things in a different way, even though I know it seemed I wasn't taking it in.  I'd always question ideas.  You helped me be more open to new ideas.  Your sense of humor and joking manner helped me lighten up and be a little less uptight.
Thank you for providing a home for me, away from home. I always felt welcome, as I still do and I appreciate your patience with my attitudes and mood swings during difficult parts of my life.  Thank you for the chance to learn what a real family is: one that eats together, talk to each other, travel together, celebrate, argue, apologize, forgive one another. It was an important event in my life.  You've become my father, whom I love and I know I can go to for good advice.  I admire you and all your accomplishments in life and can only hope, I too, will one day be just as successful as you.   When that day comes, I know I will look back to my high school years and to the times spent at the Silva house and say Thank You.  So thank you in advance for the motivation that will lead me to my future accomplishments. I love you, Sam.  Thank you for being a father figure.  Love Darlene
June 2006

See... doncha just love my Leenie...!!!  Here is photo of her and Kameron going to the Homecoming Dance when he was the 10th grade Prince... Doesn't she look like Natalie Portman [Natalie Portman is in that new movie 'The other Boylnn Girl' or something like that... anyway people ask her all the time if she is Natalie Portman]
She got asked a lot when the new star wars movie came out because she was in those movies [mother of Luke Skywalker and Princess Leah I think she was Queen Amadola or something like that]

expensive toilet trailer

Its 12:44pm Wednesday and I am
'bakin like a toasted cheeser' in the car [84 degrees here in the San Fernando Valley near Northridge] Sam is inside doing all the paperwork for the toyhauler we are buying...
I have been listening to the Bobby Cuts trial in Ohio [police officer who killed his g/f Jessie Davis 9 months pregnant and left their 2 year old son Blake home alone afterwards]
I have been sitting here crying for Jessie's family as they give their statements to the court. How sad...  Atleast Bobby Cuts will suffer everyday in State Prison for 57 years being an ex-cop and mother/baby killer!
And that's all I have to say about that...
What else... Sam and I went to Newport yesterday and then we went to go see Grampa... He looks like he is giving up... He hasn't been eating... So I ran to the market with Marlo and bought him the stuff to make Sausage and Grits [I fry up Jimmy Dean Sausage and then put it into the grits] I showed Marlo and his new male RN Angelo how to make it... He didnt disappoint me... He ate it... Whoo Hoo...  Sam got him to get out of bed and go in the family room for awhile... but he was soon exhausted and wanted to go back to bed...
We stayed all afternoon and into the evening... after his sister Tina left we left too and went to our favorite hotel "The Sea Sprite Inn" in Hermosa Beach. You know... it sure is loud at the beach! I don't know if I ever could move back there... Cars, Trucks, People walking down the street laughing at 2am... we had the windows open because it was unbelievable weather... I do love falling asleep hearing the waves crashing on the shore tho!
Anyway, after waking up this morning we headed to the 'valley' to pick up the toyhauler...
Now ofcourse here I am telling you all this from home... we made it home with the new trailer... woo hoo...
Its now almost 8pm and Sam is still outside playing with his new toy that he calls 'the expensive toilet trailer' because I HATE the port a potties at the races they are NASTY and besides I was locked in one at World Mini...
[It was a traumatic experience I'm not kidding]
Eeeewwwweeeeee!
Soooo anyway... I am going to bed...  You'all come back now hear!

"Put the wood in the hole" Ya'all

Good Monday morning ya'all...

I'm getting my twang ready for Texas...

I have a weird thing going on with accents... only one of my kids inherited it from me.... Kameron...  he can do accents like me...  if Kameron and I moved to another part of the world we would never be able to keep our 'American accents' because we would pick up whatever accent we hear... Sometimes we just start talking to each other with accents...  usually English or Irish...
"Top o the mornin to you Kameron"
"Aye... Top o the mornin to you Mom"
"Put the wood in the hole!"  translation - [shut the door]
Its a freak of nature thing I think.... It doesn't matter what accent we hear we can just do it...
Its kind of funny to us that Kieffer can't do it...  he tries but it doesn't come naturally to him... Kris won't even try... I don't know if Candice has ever done it with us... I can't remember... Have you Candice?

Candice is in the middle of moving right now so we probably won't hear from her today... Kris went over there and helped her this weekend.  You know... being an only child... I never experienced sibling rivalry... I wished I had but I never did... so when my kids were growing up I really thought OMG they are going to hit 18 and flee from this house... move to the other side of the country and never come home or talk to each other... but... they didn't... which amazes me to this day!  They like each other... they really do!
How is that possible when all they did was fight growing up?

Anyway... here I sit, blabbing on and on when I am supposed to be making a list of the stuff I am going to cook and freeze and then take to Texas! UGH... Atleast Pam gave me some good ideas about crock pot stuff I can make...  Anybody else have any good soup recipes or crock pot meals for me?  This will be the first time we will be staying at the races and not heading over to a hotel at night... YIKES!!! but we won't be paying 2 grand for a hotel for 2 weeks then either...

We are in a lotto system for RV hook ups... Everyone send good vibes we get one of the RV spots okay...

Now for what happened this weekend... We got up at 6am Saturday and headed for Glen Helen Raceway to race an REM race but when we got there it was cancelled because of all the rain we have had over the last week... However on a different track they were racing a CMC series race and we considered racing that... Kieffer went over to see how bad the track was... the second he stepped onto the track, he went up to his knee in mudd... we said forget it and headed home...

[Hold on a second... Rider is tripping me out right now... he is hiding under my desk... he only hides under my desk when he hears fireworks...  but there are not any fireworks going on right now? Hmmmm...  we have had a few earthquakes nearby recently but I haven't felt them at all... maybe its because they are building a new house down the street and he hears that... Anyway its weird...]

I better get my list going... Sam is in a mood...  We have to go to Newport,  Grampa's and pick up the trailer tomorrow!  Oh and pick up tires for the race bikes... UGH...

Anyway... You'all come back now hear!

its official I've lost my mind!

Yaaaa its Friday... and I do not want a Freaky Friday either... I feel better today...  Maybe I will clean that paint off of GiGi today, then again maybe I will add to the white paint and make her a reverse Dalmatian... You never know... might be pretty funny!  Maybe I will then add some dark spots to Kameron's puppy...

Hhhhhmmmm thats it...
its official I've lost my mind!
I'm going crazy... anyone care to come with me?
I know who would go with me... Sam's cousin Pam... my partner in crime!
[My Oooomm Dome partner]
We can make going to Jack in the Box a hilarious experience...
The last time she was here, she wanted tacos from Jack in the Box...
So I was telling her about the last time I was in the drive thru at Jack in the Box...
There was an old lady in one of those scooters, in the drive thru and I was laughing because I had never seen anyone using a drive thru in one of those old people scooters! The old lady kept looking over her shoulder at my big Excursion like at any moment I was going to run her over!
So Pam starts laughing at my story when out of no where some guy is walking thru the drive thru going the opposite way... We look at each other like WTH? Where did he come from and why is he walking through the drive thru... So I said "Maybe he is trying to find his Mother in the scooter" and we bust out in giggles... We are laughing so hard the guy comes on the speaker "I'm sorry could you repeat that order"
[We start laughing harder because we didnt order anything yet we were just laughing]
I swear I almost pee'd my pants right there in the Jack in the Box drive thru...
Now maybe that story is a 'you had to be there' but Pam and I still laugh about that... I swear I can have fun with that girl no matter where we are at... and the good news is she is driving down here today... Hooray!... I feel so much better knowing she will be here making me laugh no matter what we do...  I guess we just 'get' each other's jokes...  Or you could say "Pam and Kendra party of 2, Pam and Kendra party of 2"  I don't know if you got that joke but she would have... [in case you didn't... in my family if someone is laughing at something no one else gets we say "Kieffer party of 1, Kieffer party of 1" you know like your waiting for a table.... I know we are weird...

So I better go get my house cleaned up... Pam and her daughters family are coming tonight... I can't wait... just what I need to get out of my funk!

Somebody shoot me...

Somebody needs to take me out to the back 40 and shoot me... put me out of my misery and stupidity...

For the past two days I have felt like crap... just when I thought I was getting over this damn bronchial stuff... whammo I feel terrible again...

So all day yesterday I lay around like a slug... [I hate being a slug... I really do... I am a whiny slug who wants everyone around me to be a slug too... I want everyone to close the curtains turn on HBO and watch movies with me all day long... [want is the key word in that sentence because it doesn't happen...]

So.. where was I?  Oh ya... my misery and stupidity and the back 40...

Today Sam calls me after going to pull that permit for our friend.  He says "Hey Honey do you want to drive up to the High Desert with me?  I am meeting Kris up there and giving him work to do"  I said "Sure, let me jump in the shower"  I thought I really shouldn't go... I don't feel well enough but I didn't want to lay around being a slug all day either...

So Sam and I and our dogs head up there... the whole time driving up there I fighting off throwing up... it was not good... but I was happy my doggies were getting to go run around up there... [they have not been happy about a new puppy in the house lately!]
Now I must tell you about last week... Last week it was in the 80's here... beautiful... so nice I gave my dogs a bath... so nice... Sam had Kieffer and Kris take a bunch of paint cans from our shop to the high desert [a bunch of 1/4 filled cans left over from jobs] Sam told them to pour them out into the sand and when it hardened from the sun, shovel them up from the ground and throw them away...]  Well we figured the spills would be really hard by now, no big deal... what we didnt expect was how much rain they got last night... [we got a few sprinkles at our house]
Yup you probably have figured out the scenario by now... I let my dogs out of my car and they ran straight thru the paint puddles... my beautiful black GiGi has streaks of white paint all over her...
I wasn't happy about it but I was sick... I thought whatever... Ill deal with it later... I crawled up on the couch up there, and fought tossing my cookies...
a couple of hours later Sam says lets go... I figure the paint on my dogs has dried by now right... no big deal... I will clean them up when I get home...
I open the car door and before I could stop Rider... right through a paint puddle and into the back of my car [with beige leather seats]
What was I thinking? Where was my brain? OMG...

Sam and I just spent an hour cleaning paint off of the back seat of my Excursion...

So... like I said... someone needs to take me out to the back 40 and shoot me... put me out of my misery and stupidity...

Sam said he would do it but he doesn't have time we are leaving for Texas in 2 weeks...

thursday

 Hello everyone...
It's Thursday... YIKES... we leave for Texas in two weeks on Friday... Ahhhhhh.... we are so not ready!  I feel for Sam he has to get the race bikes ready... that is a HUGE job... race ready is not practice ready... race ready is perfect graphics, suspension, new tires, air filters cleaned, new brakes... blah blah blah....
Sam went to go pull a permit for a friend... Our granite guy's wife is opening a shop and asked Sam to pull the permit because he is a contractor... so he did... personally I think they are crazy to open a nail and hair salon right now.
Ladies... when things get tight, money wise... what is the first thing to go... yup... hair and nails... and let me tell you I DO get my nails done... and every place I go is suffering... the places are dead... I personally think they are crazy to open a shop now... but that is my two cents, what do I know...
What else... ahhh yes... Candice called yesterday... her and Mike found a great place in the LA area and will be moving this weekend... whaaaaa.... I dont want them to move but Mike has a great job lined up and Candice has a call back appointment at Disneyland for Costume Design on Feb. 28th...  Everyone say a prayer Candice gets the job at Disneyland!  Phil if you have any contacts over there still you need to call and get Candice the job!

Anyway...

that's all folks...

Trippy Tuesday... Robbermans Parking Here

Yesterday should have been labeled Freaky Friday for me!
However because it wasn't Friday I guess I'll call it Trippy Tuesday...

Why do these really weirdo things happen to us?

Yesterday morning Sam and I get up and head over to our office building to pick up some plants [to replace some of the dead ones at Newport] after going to Newport to plant them then we were heading over to Grampa's he was going home from rehab...
Meanwhile we have been looking for a new MX trailer to buy... [We have been looking for about 2 years actually... I have been bitching and bitching about having to use the port a potties at the track... they are so disgusting and besides that... a couple of years ago I went to use one and some stupid ass kids thought it would be funny to lock me in one... can you  say traumatized? I come out and there is a crowd of people staring at me...  OMG that was a nightmare...  So anyway we leave for Texas in 3 weeks and we need a trailer ASAP!!!  The problem is the new ones are junk and they will fall apart after the first year... plus we don't want to pay full price for a new one only to have it depreciate as we take it off the lot! Grrrr...  We had it narrowed down to 2... but then we bought an RV trader and found one that sounded like it was perfect... 26 foot, front bunks with big bathroom in front, queen sleeper in the back with fold down dinette table too, 2004 never used, 2 TV's, DVD player, and Xbox built in... Whoa this unit had an unbelievable price too!!!  We asked what is wrong with it then? This was too good to be true... they said "Oh there is a big slice in the linoleum"...  we thought who cares about that... shoot the motorcycles couldn't care less if there is a slice in the linoleum... heck they could cause it to happen during travel... we have got to go see this toyhauler... then we found out where it was... UGH... Encino... Yikes... for those of you who don't know L.A. this is not good news... not because it is a bad area... but because it is about an hour and half from Newport... UGH!!! You have to travel to the San Fernando Valley... on the other side of downtown LA and more... through the worst rush hour traffic imaginable at any time of day...
We didnt want to lose this trailer to someone else... so we decided to go... UGH... we got really lucky and sailed there in an hour in the carpool lane... woo hoo!
We looked at the trailer and let me tell you it did not disappoint us... Whoever ordered this trailer, had the best put in it! Real cabinets, all the bells and whistles! Then for whatever reason, before they could use it, it was repo'd... all the tags are hanging off the appliances... plastic still on the toilet! It was amazing... We are going back on Thursday to pick it up... the guy is going to make sure everything works... the batteries, generator, propane is filled up... etc... we were a little worried because it is a 2004 and been sitting for 4 years... the guy said he will make sure it all works... and we made a deal on a handshake... the guy said he still does business the old fashion way... your word and a hand shake... how cool is that! no deposit [this man is retired but he picks up used RV's and resells them]
Ok... so by now it is 3:30pm and we are in the San Fernando Valley... We are getting calls from the boys at home they are trying to go practice at Starwest MX park but they have a little problem...
Somebody has parked their silver F 150 truck across our driveway, blocking our vehicles from getting out... the boys went to all the neighbors, nobody seems to know who's truck this is? WTH? So Sam calls the police and they say we need to be home if we want to the vehicle towed... UGH!
So we have to head home in LA traffic... UGH... we did pretty good using the car pool lane but still... its a nightmare!  Especially coming from the valley!
We pull up and there is a police officer at the house... are you ready for this? The truck was stolen this morning when the owner was warming it up in his driveway a few blocks away... WTH? Who in the hell decided to park it in front of our house? Do we have a sign that says 'robbermans parking' right here in front of our house? WTF? How freaky is that! Parked a stolen truck in front of my house, across my driveway! I can assure you I do not live at the beach where there is NO parking on my block... I live here where there is tons of parking on my street... Is someone messing with us? or was it a random act of parking after seeing a police car? Isn't that weird... How would you feel if someone blocked your driveway with a stolen truck?
Whatever... the owner was contacted and came and got his truck... and the police left too...
Anyway... then later... the boys came home from Starwest after practice and we notice the BIGGEST oil spill going under the truck... this is the 3rd time its happened... our mechanic better get his act together! I am tired of watching it get towed over there... Grrrrr...
So we are down to one car again... UGH... 4 people, 1 car... YIKES....
I just called Sam's sister and explained why we couldn't come visit yesterday and I find out Grampa is home and sick... with the rattling cough.... oh man I feel so bad I must have given it to him last week when I was there...
We are going on Thursday to see him before we pick up the trailer...
So say some prayers for Grampa ok...

Saturday - Stuff -

Quick entry and then I am going to bed... I have been sick since getting back from LA... Coughing, throwing up, coughing, runny nose did I mention the deep cough with lovely colored stuff coming up...

Now that your as sick as I am...

I will tell you some good news... both Kameron and Kieffer took 1st place today at Glen Helen...
Kieffer's first 450cc race... he always races 250cc...

Also, I am a Glamma again... Let me tell you about my new Grand-dog... Kameron's this time... sigh... I'll wait to show you a picture of his little bundle of joy... Let me just say this... [she's white!]

GiGi wants no part of it...  Rider could care less...  we'll chat that later anyway... sigh...

Kieffer brought his new girlfriend to the track [or I should say her brother chaperoned her and brought her to the track today] she is very nice... her name is Mackenzie [she is a freshman] Yikes!  [Kieffer is a young Junior at 16]  Sigh...

Oh and one more little tid bit of info...

but I'm not one to gossip so you didnt hear this from me...

My favorite SIL Becky  has decided to take off back to the streets and drugs once again [as if anyone in this family is in shock over it] not because Grampa is ill and needs help but because her loser boyfriend is playing with  her head or something like that...

And that is all I have to say about that...

Grampa, my nephews Ryan and Nicholas, and a puppy named "Lil Man'

I am sitting here with Grampa in his rehab place...
He is scheduled to go home on Thursday, Valentines Day
[Grampa's birthday]
He asked me yesterday

"How old am I?"
"How old do you feel Dad?"
he thought about it
"90"
"Well, your close, you will be 84"
"Wow, I NEVER thought I would live this long"

Dr. says he has the heart of a 40 year old!

[Probably because he never smoked and he was very active... skiing, hiking, riding motorcycles, jitterbugging whenever he could... Grampa loves to Jitterbug!]

BTW I have skied with Grampa and he skied circles around me...
[Even when I was 18 years old!!!]
When he went skiing, it was all about how many runs he could get in that day...
He was a chair lift up, ski straight down, chair lift up, ski straight down...
I, on the other hand was more of a chair lift up, hot chocolate at the snack bar, ski down in turns because I hated falling down, chair lift up, big turns down, time for lunch at the Lodge, chair lift up, time for a 'Hot toddy,' ski down in bigger turns...
You get the picture...

I have gone camping with Grampa too...  He was always the last one to bed and the first one up!  Making coffee in the morning over the campfire...

One time we went to Perris Lake, we had young kids at that time Kris was about 6, Candice was about 5 and Kameron had just turned a year old.  The campground was new and it had a bike bath going around the man made lake... So Sam and his father took the kids on a bike ride... Kris and Candice had their own bikes and Sam had a beach cruiser with a seat on the back for Kameron.  Grampa had one of those bikes that folds up to fit on the front of your camper...  About 45 minutes later Sam comes back laughing so hard we can't get him to tell us what was so funny...
He keeps trying but then laughs and laughs... He has us laughing too but we don't know why yet!!!
Finally, after 10 minutes he gets the story out in between fits of laughter...
They were going down the bike path and Grampa was in front of Sam...  Suddenly, Grampa's back wheel starts folding up! The whole bike folded up while Grampa was riding it... He said it was the funniest thing he ever saw...
Grampa somehow forgot to bring the pin that keeps the bike from folding up.
Sam says laughing "but the funniest part is he tried to blame the kids for messing with his bike... "Kids must have been messing with my bike!"... and then he would start laughing again with tears streaming down his face...
"Is Dad, OK? Did he get hurt"
"Ya he is fine, Just his ego got hurt"  and he'd start laughing again...
"Where is he?"
"He's coming but his has to push his bike, he doesn't have the pin to hold the bike together"
A little while later, Grampa came walking up the bike path pushing his new toy, with Kris and Candice riding their bikes near him...
By now he was smiling, feeling stupid... Just the site of him made Sam start laughing all over again...
I said "Hi Dad, are you hungry? Ready for some dinner?"
He said "Yes, I'm hungry that was a good hike back"  and he sat in a fold out banana chair with his feet up.  I handed him his dinner and the second I did... the banana chair decided to fold its legs up from under him!
In a split second he was on the ground...
We were all stunned... but Grampa laughed... "I better just eat here on the ground, it seems its where I am supposed to be today" and we all laughed too.

Anyway... back to the here and now... Grampa is doing VERY VERY WELL!
I am very proud of him... When I came on Monday morning, I was told Sunday wasn't a good day for him... He had walked about 4 steps since getting out of the hospital on Friday.
Sam's sister Lisa was with him when I arrived and she gave me all the info I needed for the day...  I kept telling him "Dad if you want to go home you HAVE to eat and you HAVE to walk okay?" "OK Honey"
Damn if he didn't take it to heart too! He walked from his bed to the hallway in his first Physical therapy for the day [he has it 3 times a day] and later he walked all the way down the hallway! Woo Hoo.. and he has been eating so much too!!! I am so proud of him!  He sleeps most of the time in between everything, he is SO tired... [No wonder he is so tired, every 15 minutes someone walks in here to poke him, or check this or ask that! UGH]
Its frustrating!
The Dr. came in Monday and said "Looks like he is doing well with his hip, when would you like to schedule him for chemo and radiation" My eyes got huge and I made the hand across my neck like 'shut up about chemo and radiation' he quickly GOT it...
Oh my... thankfully Grampa doesn't hear all that well... whew!
If he read his chart, it  says he is a hospice patient with months to live... we are not telling him he has bone cancer and prostate cancer... Good Lord... we are not putting him through chemo and radiation... my goodness...  Do we want to see him go quicker, being absolutely miserable and sick with chemo... I don't think so...

Later today Sam's cousin Pam is coming to visit... she is bringing a Chihuahua named 'little man' she is trying to find a home for... we are going to sneak him in for Grampa to see :)  Then I am heading home after traffic... I have been here for 2 days helping out...
Tina and Lisa keep thanking me profusely for being here but I told them...

"You don't have to thank me... Grampa has been a father to me longer than my own father was... I had my Father for 15 years, I have had Grampa for 24 years... since I was 18 years old!  I love him"

Going back to LA in the morning...

I just wanted to let you all know I won't be around the next couple of days...  I'm leaving to help out with Grampa...  Sam's sister Becky is sick...
[If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all... Ahhh hum]
Sam's sister Tina and his sister Lisa both have to work... So I have the Monday, Tuesday, daytime shift...
Grampa is in the Rehab place and doing well...
[so they say but to be honest with you guys... I got a funny feeling... I don't know why...  I just do...]
I worry because this broken hip sure can drain him... and take him down quicker... you know what I mean...
Anyway, I am going to stay at a friends house while I am down there...
My other friend Pam [from high school]
Check this out... I had a birthday party for Kris and Candice when they were 2 and 3 [their b-days are 2 weeks apart] and I invited my good friend Pam... Her fiance came to pick up Pam from the party and we couldnt believe it
[It was a guy who grew up across the street from Sam! Whoa small world]
Sadly tho... they are in the middle of a divorce right now... she has her own apartment, doing fantastic in a great job but its really hard for her... this is not what she imagined after the kids were grown... after 20 plus years of marriage...  She gave him every chance in the world to make it work but for whatever reason he never took it seriously...  I don't think he really believed she would go... but she did and I hope she finds what she deserves... An honest, loving, man to share the rest of her life with...
She is not sitting around waiting tho... she is having the time of her life doing tons of fun things... like going to Hawaii to see Jimmy Buffet in concert, going to Vegas to see Alan Jackson, taking the kids on a cruise at Christmas... You go girlfriend...  I can't wait to take her to dinner Monday, and have a P.J. pow wow like only old friends can do ;)

Let's see what else... Oh... you guys would have been proud today... I did laundry, cleaned out my fridge, and mopped my floor... Oh Oh and I made ribs for dinner... I better stop doing things like that... they might get used to it...  then I would have to do it all the time... I would lose my trophy wife club card... they would kick me out of the organization!!!  LOL...

I'll keep ya posted about Grampa...

Days like today are the reason I live here...

Its Feb 10, and 83 degrees outside...  Remember how I use to complain about us having no rain?  Well this winter came through with a lot of rain and now all the hills are green again...  Its amazing how everything can go from brown to green with just a little bit of rain...

We didnt race this weekend... the bikes were not ready after the crazy few weeks we have had [break in's for 2 weeks and then Grampa last week]
Racing is going to get crazy pretty soon... we have local races until March and then we head to Texas for two Nationals... [we'll be gone for 3 weeks... I don't know how that is going to go with Grampa being sick... I sure would hate to be in the middle of a National near Houston, Texas and get the call Grampa passed away!]
After March and Texas... comes April and 10 days in Las Vegas for the World Mini Grand Prix race....
After that comes Yamaha Dealer Series at Glen Helen and the Ponca City Oklahoma Qualifier then the Loretta Lynn Qualifier for Hurricane Mills, Tennessee...
Oh Boy... I have sure enjoyed these last 4 weeks off... I have NOT however enjoyed the reasons we had to take them off!!!

Well... I hafta go do laundry because Chrissy hasn't flown here to do it for me... WTH Chrissy?  I also have to clean out my fridge... but I don't wanna...
Its too nice of a day to stay inside and clean...  I should be lounging poolside with a pina coloda in my hand [like a good trophy wife is supposed too]

Have a good Sunday everyone...

A few laughs if your Catholic

The surgery

Sam and I went to a hotel Wednesday about 11am...

[which by the way was replacing toilets in all the rooms but we didnt care if they were jack hammering we were exhausted from being with Grampa all night and needed sleep]

We slept till 3pm... Grampa's surgery was at 5pm, so we wanted to be there about 4pm...  before they took him into pre-op...
We arrive at his room and it was crowded!  Sam's sister Tina and her hubby Ciro [who looks like Scott Baio...] their daughter Kristina, Sam's sister Lisa, Sam's sister Becky, Sam and I...
We are all standing around Grampa's bed when he opens his eyes and says
"What is this... a wake?"
"No Dad, its a party"
"Oh Ya? Then where is my glass of Harvey's?" we all laughed...
Then they came to take him to pre-op, and he was gone... sigh... so we headed down to the surgery waiting room... which was packed! [this is an excellent hospital] so we went to the lobby and sat down.
Soon a nurse came out and asked for 2 people to come back to be with Grampa in pre-op
[They had asked him why he was there... he said "I don't know"... then they asked which hip was to be operated on and he said the wrong hip... I guess they decided "Uh lets get some family members back here"]
Anyway, the surgeon came and talked to Sam and Lisa in pre-op saying he has good news... they are not going to have to replace his hip and use a rod down his femur after all...  they only need to put in 3 screws...
A huge sigh of relief went over us all...  Whew... Thank God...
Right before they took him into surgery he told Lisa
"I want a beer" she laughed and said
"Dad, after surgery you can have a beer"
Later when Sam and Lisa were leaving pre -op Sam said
"So you gonna go buy Dad a 40oz for after surgery, Lisa?" and he laughed
[You have to realize Grampa has never been a beer drinker anyway, he is more of a Scotch or Harvey Bristol Cream kind of guy... so the beer thing was funny anyway]
Lisa said "No.. I'm not going to go buy him a beer, he'll never remember I said that anyway!" and she laughed...

So there we were taking up half the lobby... Sam, me, Tina, Ciro, Kristina, Lisa, and Becky... then Tina and Ciro's oldest son Nicholas showed up and our daughter Candice came too...
We were all telling Grampa stories and laughing... other people in the lobby were laughing at the stories too...
A little over an hour later the surgeon came out with an x-ray... the surgery was a success... he was in post-op and doing great...
Ohhh we were so relieved... and just as the surgeon was walking away, he turns and says something that we will NEVER forget...
"You made the right decision!" and he was gone...  Whoa! that was pretty significant to us... we had agonized over whether to put Grampa through the surgery the night before!
Oh.. we were so happy...
there was a buzz of excitement surrounding us...  we went up to his room to wait for his return... I had to shut his door for fear they would kick us all out for having a party...
[9 happy laughing relatives in a hospital room is usually grounds for getting 86'd out of the hospital!]
A little while later, Grampa arrived... and they told us his dementia would probably be worse after surgery...

maybe for some older patients but not for Grampa... first words out of his mouthwere
"Where is my beer? Lisa said I could have a beer after surgery!" we all laughed...
We steered him away from wanting a beer but then he started in on
"I want a 'Scotch Sandwich'"
"What is a 'Scotch Sandwich' Dad?" he looked at us like we were stupid
"Valentine's Scotch between two ice cubes" we all cracked up...
[All this talk about Scotch, Beer and Harvey's, you'd think Grampa was an alcoholic but he is not...
maybe Grampa thinks if he can drink he must be ok...
I don't know what that is all about...
but its funny as hell when he does it...
maybe he does it to make us laugh]

Suddenly, Grampa realized something...
"Hey you didn't tell me my grandchildren are here!" which sounded more like
"Get the hell out of the way, my grandchildren are here" we all turned to look at Candice, Nicholas and Kristina who were together in the corner of the room...

They came over and started to talk to Grampa...  they made plans to go skiing and ride motorcycles together [that won't happen but you gotta have dreams... less than 10 years ago he was doing that with them]

Sam and I decided to say our good-byes... we were exhausted... having only slept a few hours in the last couple of days... We headed over to the hotel and went to bed...
The next morning, we headed over to the hospital again... Our daughter Candice had the day shift with Grampa... He looked good, sat up and was eating some breakfast... It's hard to get Grampa to eat... its a challenge to put it mildly...  but we told him "Dad... you want to go home, you have to eat and you have towalk... so work hard when the physical therapist comes today" he said "Okay" and he ate pretty good...
He was pretty tired... so we left and headed home...  we obviously hadn't expected this to happen and didnt bring a change of clothes...
[3 days in the same clothes YIKES]
He will be going to a rehab place for a week to 10 days and then he can go home... please say some prayers for him... I want to see him get back home...
We are going back Monday or Tuesday to see him...  I'll keep ya posted on his progress...

This is a letter to Candice from Grampa...

12 years ago when Grampa didn't have Alzheimer's, when he was able to do what he wanted, when he drove and was mobile... I thought I would share the letter with all of you [with Candice's permission of course] so you could see the Grampa before he got sick...

March 31, 1996

Dear Candice:
What a beautiful letter. I shall keep it forever.  Incidentally, you are the first grandchild that ever wrote me a letter.  What a pleasant surprise, I say again "I will keep it and cherish it forever."
I am so proud of you.  You are one great wonderful Granddaughter.
Winning second place in the science fair is quite a "fete" for a sixth grader, also hoping for a third "A" honor roll is really something to shoot for.
This tremendous attitude is due to your impelling effort and desire, which will certainly be an asset in achieving your goals during your teenage and adult life.  Keep it up.
Also that essay about the jobs of a Sister and Priest was utterly fantastic.  I began to wonder how such a young lady and sixth grader, could ever imagine the duties of a Priest and Sister, and then put it into words, the way you did.  I'm sure your teacher and parents are very proud of such an accomplishment [beautifully done].
Now I'll tell you a little about my dull life. ha ha   Lets see now, If I remember correctly, I think you stated it this way; "Whats up with you Gramps?"
Well, to be honest with you, things have been going along rather smoothly for this  young "geezer" lately.  Skiing is just about over, so I am looking forward to the pack backing season and trout fishing.
I'll be back packing the Grand Canyon again this year [June 25 -26-27]
Hopefully you, Kris, Collin, Ryan and Nicholas and possibly Kameron might be able to join me. {Those were grandkids}
Its apretty tough back pack but knowing you and your never give up attitude, there is no doubt in my mind that you can do it.
Also my golf game has gone "zilch" Another words, terrible. I'm not even shooting my handicap which is 18, and thats bad. Don't tell your Dad this.  He'll probably laugh and say; "Ole Grampa is getting old and going down hill, and he won't admit it"  Oh yeah, I won't buy that.  You tell him; "I'll beat his behind" any day on the golf course as well as trout fishing", ha ha
I'm also getting my motorcycle ready for the high desert [250cc] so I can run circles around your Dad. You know how it is; "I'll let him beat me, just to make him feel good." Tell him this. [that will get his "gander" up]
Come to think of it, I'm looking forward to back packing the Sierra's in August. [as soon as the snow melts and the trails are open] Going to back pack into the Cottonwood Lakes, just below Mt. Langley, the second highest peak in the Continental U.S.  I'm looking forward to it, because it's really good golden trout fishing [native trout]
I think your Dad said something about wanting to go along this year. The hike takes us up beyond the thirteen thousand foot level but its beautiful country. I can't wait.
Oh my Gosh, here I am "yakking" about myself and I almost forgot to mention the most important occasion in this letter.  I want to mention how proud I am to hear of your baptism and holy communion as well as Kris, Kameron and your Mom. I think that is utterly wonderful and fantastic.  I'm very proud of your Mom for the way she had worked with you children to become Catholics. She deserves four stars, come to think of it, ten stars would be more appropriate.  She even has that notorious son of mine [your Dad] going to Mass too.  Your Mom is very very special and I love her.
Well, Candice, I think I've just about said it all, and as we use to say in the Canoe Club [the Navy], It's time to drop anchor and bail out.
It was so nice to hear from you.  Hope to hear from my number one pen pal again.
Hope to see you all at Easter, and I wantto wish you and your Mother and Dad and family a Happy and Blessed Easter and God Bless you all.
All my Love,
Gramps

Tuesday pm - Wednesday am

Its 3:36am and I am inside the emergency room...

I haven't been in this hospital for 20 years and 2 weeks!! Since the day Kameron was born!

Sam and I left yesterday morning [after voting] for Newport.. We handled the stuff we needed to buy at Home Depot, rented a hotel room and went back to the house to drop the stuff off...
[carpet was being installed the next morning]

By now it was about 6pm... We were planning to go see Grampa after traffic died down... So I called to make sure Grampa would be awake around 8pm...

Marlo told me she ran to the bank and to the grocery store, Becky was at the house with Grampa... When she came home no one was there!!!

So I called Sam's sister Tina...

I found out Grampa fell and broke his hip
[not the one from 3 years ago, the other side]

OMG!!! Sam and I headed over there...

We pull up and Sam's sister Lisa and his sister Becky are outside
[As much as I can't stand Becky, I put my anger aside for the time being... Its not the time or place]

We went inside to an unbelievable scene  [the lobby was jam packed] there were no emergency room beds left either... So there was Grampa on a gurney in front of the ER nursing station in the hallway!

{We are still almost 12 hours later smack dab in front of the ER nurses station}

You know what... I swear I wouldn't have it any other way!

If you had the 'night watch' with someone and had to stay up all night in a hospital.... Where would you rather be?  Tucked away in some room or front row seat to "Life in the ER"?  I have been playing Dr. Kendra all night... [that patient doesn't need to be in an ER, that patient has a sprain its not broken, 104 degree fever in a baby... Can we get a Tylenol suppository stat... exactly what they did too... Damn I am good...]

I guess I am skirting the truly hard part about being here... We had to make a decision on whether to operate or not... Grampa has a fracture in the ball part of his hip, he also has a couple of pelvis fractures...

[Remember now, this is a man with bone cancer and prostate cancer with only a few months to live]

I won't go into the long debate we all had {Sam, his 3 sisters and me}  In the end, we unanimously agreed on surgery... We just hope the bone cancer hasn't spread so far he hasn't got any good bone to attach to.
We all agreed to shifts, staying by Grampa's side
[remember he has Alzheimer's... earlier today they asked him his birthday, and he remembered that to our surprise... However, when asked what year it was... he said
"Um... 1960 something?"]
So anyway... Sam and I are on the overnight shift...
Grampa sleeps for about 20 minutes, wakes up and looks at me [I am in a chair at the end of the gurney by his feet]  He keeps telling me "Your special, very, very special, you know that" and he smiles... That makes doing the 'night shift' worth every minute to me!

Its so sad tho... Grampa is so thin he looks like a Holocaust Survivor, his mouth is hanging open, and his eyes are half shut... He looks like my Mother in Hospice before she passed away...

He is on his way to Heaven and fighting every step of the way... Part of me just wants to tell him
"Dad... it's okay to go, we will be fine" but I could just hear him say
"Who the Sam Hill said I'm going anywhere?"

Earlier he couldn't have anything to drink because they said he may have surgery... So they gave us some lemon swabs, he could swab his mouth with...
Grampa says "Could ya dip them in Scotch, please?"
Later when a nurse hooked him up to an IV he says "Gulp"  we all laughed

You know, part of me says don't do the surgery but after spending the night here with him I realize morphine and being uncomfortable every 20 minutes isn't the answer either... We have to TRY!
Hey this is a man who was on his death bed 35 years ago with stomach cancer, they gave him last rights but he fought his way out of the surgery and went on to have 2 years of chemo and radiation... He is a fighter!

Its now almost 5am on Wednesday, thanks for being here with me and Grampa ;)
Talking to you guys made it easier...

I wish I could tell you about all the trauma drama going on all around me but it would take forever... Let me just tell you this... A front row seat for 'code red' and 'code blue' is fascinating...

I look at Grampa and wonder will he ever get to go home again? Surgery & then a Rehabilitation place...
[Just like your father ... Mary]
Will there be complications?
Will he make it through surgery?
Will he be in more pain after they replace his hip and put a metal rod down his femur?

I have been watching Grampa do an interesting thing all night... he reaches for the seam in his blanket and makes a motion with both hands like he is doing the Rosary...  Unfortunately, this makes his IV line pinch up and the machine starts beeping needing to be restarted...

Lucky for the ER nurses I have IV experience

[Remember I had to give Kieffer an IV every day for 2 hours, for 6 weeks!]

Hell, I could flush the line too... if they gave me the saline or heparin to do it!

I'll leave them my address, so they can send my paycheck

Oh good news... Grampa finally has a room getting ready for him... I said "Oh good... a Queen... non smoking?"
the nurse laughed...

Grampa is scheduled for surgery today [Wednesday at 5pm]

After they get him in his room and his sister Becky comes at 10am, we are going to a Motel to sleep... we are exhausted

I'll keep ya posted...  Thanks for being here with me every step of the way...

Crazy wind damage

Sam and the boys are home...

I guess it looks like a hurricane hit over by our office... The roof of Builders Supply blew off, a tire place up the street had a air conditioner unit in the driveway, huge trees were uprooted every where... it will be on the news by morning I'm sure...

We were lucky, they found the awning on our back building roof... Sam and the boys got it down and secured it... the pilates studio hadn't been broken into, the back door just blew open from wind...

that is it... Sam and I are going to bed now...

Uhhhh boy...

That was a short lived celebration...

Wow, what a Superbowl...

All I asked for was a close game!

Sam had picked the Patriots to go to the Superbowl but he was rooting for the Giants...

I was too...

We had 11 people here and 9 were for the Giants...

The chili I made was perfect... everyone just kept getting more bowls... even Kieffer and Kameron ate it!

So we are all celebrating and watching the Lombardi trophy being given... when Sam's cell phone goes off...

Oh brother what now...

It was our office manager Marie, she went to the office to feed the dogs and noticed the 20ft awning with steel pipes is just 'gone'

[We had winds gusting so bad all day up to 60mph at times]

Oh ya plus the backdoor to our tenant next door [a pilates studio] was banging open...

Sam told her to call the police about the pilates studio... and Sam, Kameron, Kieffer and Kris jumped in Sam's truck and drove over there... We are hoping that awning hasn't damaged any expensive cars in the surrounding area...

Oh brother... and we were in such a great mood over the Superbowl!

...HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM PST MONDAY... A HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM PST MONDAY. WEST WINDS TO 25 TO 45 MPH WITH DAMAGING GUSTS OF 75 TO 80 MPH POSSIBLE. STRONGEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED ON THE EAST SLOPES OF THE MOUNTAINS AND ADJACENT PORTIONS OF THE DESERTS. A HIGH WIND WARNING MEANS A HAZARDOUS HIGH WIND EVENT IS EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 40 MPH OR GUSTS OF 58 MPH OR MORE CAN LEAD TO PROPERTY DAMAGE.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?

I am!!!  I already made a huge pot of chili... I figure its perfect for today... gonna be raining all day with occasional 60 mph winds!  Anyone who comes over  hungry can grab a bowl, throw some cheddar cheese on it, have Ritz, or Saltines or Garlic Bread with it... and I dot have to leave the couch ;)

Kameron and Kieffer are gonna bitch but I don't care... They are 'healthy' eaters... They can eat the veggie tray...  [Ellen I don't think they could survive in Brooklyn - I was watching Scott Baio is 46 and pregnant - he travels back to his old neighborhood and goes to the local deli, he started to order his sandwich with wheat bread and his old buddies started to give him hell - 'with sprouts and soy milk too?'
He changed his order quickly...
Yikes...  The only way Kieffer likes chips is with cottage cheese...  I'll tell them to stay away from Brooklyn...
I wanna go to Brooklyn tho...  You can take me to any Italian neighborhood...
If I could only eat one ethnic type of food for the rest of my life... it would be Italian!!!
[I would miss Panda Express]  Do any of you have Panda Express back there? It is the only kind of fast food I can't give up!  I order a 1/2 and 1/2[chow mien &  fried rice, orange chicken and kung pau chicken]
They even have Panda at Angel Stadium... The line was sooooo long... but I waited in it at Supercross!  Way better than those hot dogs!
Speaking of hot dogs... we finally have Nathan's Hot Dogs out here... in the grocery, at the movies, and a place on Palm Canyon... Isn't that a New York thing?

OMG!!! I forgot to tell you... I found a good grocery store... I am so happy!!!
Remember, they closed my Alberston's for a Carneceria? [Mexican Market ...the building is still empty BTW]
So I have been upset, they are building a Stater Bros. around the corner but its not finished yet and the other one up the street is WAY to crowded with a security guard standing outside [uh ya I'm not going there]
So I drove to the next town to another Albertson's and everyone in that store was so great and helpful
[plus Kameron's friend Travis works as butcher there]
I was so impressed with the store I called the manager and told him I would be coming back because of Travis [he owes me one], the checker and the box boy!
I even chit chatted with an older New Yaark woman at the store... She was complaining about how cold it was... I said "but at least there isn't any snow here!"  She was a tiny little thing... must have been 80!

Ok... 11:06am and I am still in my robe... YIKES!!!  Lazy Bones Jones... Sam just came in and said "Hey Honey.... Oh... are you floggin and bloggin"
"Yes my am"

Oh... I forgot to tell you about my super clean house I came home to from the high desert house... Kameron and his girlfriend did it for me... Can you say 'Major Brownie Points' cha ching...
They didnt do laundry tho... I swear Chrissie I'm booking you a ticket...
Oh... and thank you for nominating my blog for the award ;)
This is what she wrote about me for the 'Nice Matters' Award
Motomom
Kendra is this crazy tall blonde hoochie mama from California (I say that with love ;-)~). Her whole family of boys are motocross racers. IF you need someone to pick you up, talk to this lady she'll do it for you.  She was the first person from Jland that I ever talked to on the telephone.  I love her stories of her husband, gorgeous movie star looking kids and her Hollywood dogs. I want your life sometime okay. When I run away I'm gonna go to her house and do her laundry LOL. I don't even remember how I metcha probably through LJ, but your one of my greatest friendships. Thanks for being you.

Anyway, everyone have a great Superbowl Sunday... Dont leave during the commercials because I want to know everyone's favorite one later today...

REMEMBER DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE... Its not worth it... Dot let your friends do it either! The police are around the corner waiting in full force today...

Call me Ill pick you up!
