Girlfriends Weddings and Time Warps...

Ok where do I begin...  I have SO many stories from the wedding, you don't even know... I should have been writing everyday but I was too tired because Candice's wedding planner [Kristina, who did a GREAT job with the bridal shower] got jury duty for the last 2 weeks... Can you say stress? We couldn't call her for advice... it was just crazy... it all came together in the end and that is what truly matters!  That and the fact my daughter was NOT a Bridezilla... whew...

So lets start from the beginning... Wednesday of last week... Gram Pam and I drove to my high school friend Pam's house [she will now be known as Pam H. okay?] Pam H. was the PERFECT hostess. She had cookies and a key made for us to come and go as we pleased during our stay in her totally cute house! Pam and I have been friends FOREVER! We were pregnant at the same time and had the kids 6 weeks apart... she had a son named Tim and I had Candice!
Anyway, my daughter came over and we drove to San Pedro to pick up her wedding dress at the alteration place... The lady did a great job on the dress... after we came back to Pam H's, Nurse Pam came over! I wanted her to meet Candice and my other Pam's so she would have a good time at the wedding... Oh boy... did we have a good time on Pam H's patio that night...
About 12am, after Nurse Pam and Candice left... I said "Let's go to Denny's Im starving!" I had quit drinking long before they did! I had no idea how tipsy Pam H was until we get into Denny's and she says to the waiter
"Oh wow, you have a lot of menu's on your item"  we all cracked up! We talked and laughed into the wee hours of the morning... There is something so cool about close girlfriends... no matter how long you haven't seen each other, it doesn't matter, it seems like it was just yesterday! Do you understand what I mean?  Gram Pam and I were there for 6 days and I missed them after I came home! That... is what friendship is all about... not getting on each others nerves after 6 days!
Jeanne... when you come out at Christmas, we are coming out on a road trip to see you...
So onto Thursday, Candice and Mike were busy getting their marriage lic. at the courthouse so Gram Pam and I headed off to get my dirty Excursion washed! It had brake dust all over the back wheels... my brakes started squeaking the day I left but Sam said "We can't do anything about it now, so we will get the brakes done after the wedding" so I didn't worry about it too much but I was conscious of brakes problems... [remember this part because the brakes are a story all on its own later]
After we had the car washed, we were in the neighborhood I grew up in... So I said "Lets go drive down the street I grew up on"  As we did, I realized the house looked the same as when I grew up... I had lost touch with my step-dad years ago and found it hard to believe he still lived in the house [A single man in a 2 story home with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, sauna, guest house and 5 car garage] but I rang the doorbell anyway and sure enough he did! So I took Gram Pam in with me to visit... He was VERY nice and welcoming, we had a nice visit... but the weirdest thing was... the kitchen had not changed since the day I lived there! EVERYTHING was the same! The floor, the appliances, the bar stools.  I was suddenly in a time warp of the 70's... even Gram Pam was tripping!  I guess my step dad was just finishing up his last round of chemo and radiation from cancer, so he couldn't come to the wedding... but we left exchanging phone numbers and agreed to stay in touch...  whew that was so weird... imagine going back to your childhood home and everything was still the same! The furniture... everything... except the shag wall to wall carpeting was gone... Sitting in the same stool you ate cereal in before school... ya... are you getting the picture?  The even weirder thing was, nothing was old and worn out, it was just the SAME? I guess he hasn't had anyone there to wear it out... Even my step dad looked the SAME... I swear to God... he looked the same as the day I left home...
TIME WARP... so much for the saying "You can never go home again"
I wished I had my camera you dont even know...  Im glad Gram Pam talked me into ringing the doorbell...

More stories to come but I have to get ready for a Motocross National, I leave in 2 days for Sacramento...

I can relate since I live in my childhood home & much of it is the same.  Mary has been sllllooooowwww to change things.....

Weird seeing him though, I am sure.

I can tell from all you have said that your daughter isn't the Bridezilla type. Some girls are that type every day of their lives & I cannot stand them!~Mary
