Saturday morning stuff

Good Saturday morning...
Its 6:30am and Sam and Kieffer left to practice at Glen Helen Raceway...
They will be racing there on Sunday too... I usually go but Nurse Pam and Gram Pam are coming up today for a 'girls weekend' LOL... Nice...

Are you ready for another year of racing? We are... we just signed another contract with Dunlop tires for the 2009 season... We LOVE Dunlop tires! We are looking forward to another year of sponsorship with them! They are the best motocross tires made... [How was that for sponsor promotion LOL]
We are also signed with Oneal, SPY, Panolin oil, Gaerne Boots, One Industries, West Coast Motorsports, FMF, Twin Air, and a few others I can't think of at the moment... [Bad Motomom!]
We will be heading back to Texas in March for Nationals... [This time I hope there will be no broken leg, or arm, or anything else!] Its hard to believe Kieffer broke his leg in Texas only 10 months ago... doesn't it seem longer than that? It does to me anyway...
I know some people think I am crazy to allow my boys to race motocross... but those people don't understand what its like to be with my boys every weekend working as a team... Dad's the mechanic, I handle gear, sign ups, and sandwiches, and the boys have to work out everyday, go to practice a couple of times a week, eat right, and get enough sleep! It doesn't leave much room for anything else... which is good... I took them out of motocross for 2 years... they played high school football... oh boy... wanna talk about worrying! Girls, Girls and more Girls... parties on the weekend... then Kieffer broke his leg in football... as he was laying on the field waiting for the ambulance to arrive... [because his lower leg was literally snapped in 2] Kieffer said "Dad if I am going to break bones... I am doing it on the motocross track... I am going back to racing" and we did...
When Kieffer did break his leg in football I remember the coaches saying "Wow you both handled that so well, we could have had a couple of hysterical parents on our hands!" I will never forget him saying that... I remember thinking... "Hhmmm... hysterical... didn't know that was an option..."
Anyway... I have been through it all with my kids... its how I became an M.D. LOL Even Nurse Pam learns a few things from me... Huh Nurse Pam! I am going to pass on some of my knowledge to you today...
Biggest sign of a broken bone that is not obviously broken...
Swelling? Nope
Bruising? Nope
Going to sleep... Yes... If your child falls, hurts his arm or leg and then crawls up on the couch and falls asleep... Its probably broken!
Also... if you have to go to Urgent Care for an X-ray... wait until an hour and a half before they close... Its AMAZING how quickly you'll get out of there!

Ok... enough of that... what else...

Yesterday my father has been gone 28 years... Wow... 28 years... can you believe that! 48 years old... way too young to go... I was 15 years old...
I guess you could say he was the one who started me on my M.D. path!
He had a heart attack, then he got blood clots in his leg but he didn't want to go back to the hospital... he waited till his lower leg was numb and gangrene had set in to his big toe and heel... [he lost his big toe and part of his heel because of it] They had to cut his leg open from his groin to his heel and take the blood clots out... his lower leg never healed right and he had a huge open wound about 7 inches on his calf [both sides of it] He had a nurse come twice a day to pour hydrogen peroxide and betadine into it...
When we would go on vacation or somewhere... guess who had to dress his wounds... yup me... it didn't bother me tho... what bothered me more... was walking up the street from high school everyday... wondering if I would find him dead... that was always on my mind...
I wasn't home when he did pass away... Thank God!
I miss him terribly... he could always make me laugh! He taught me to drive when I was 13... gave me the keys to the Mercedes and sent me to the store... "Now... if you get pulled over... just say you took the car... I'll yell at you when I pick you up from the police station!" "Ok, Dad" I never did get pulled over!

Oh boy... hope I didn't bum you guys out with my long winded story today? I am not bummed, I am excited and can't wait for my Pam's to get here!!! Woo Hoo...

I wish Ellen could come too... I think she is going to call us tonight... I hope you feel better Honey! [She was in a bad accident a few days ago]

and that is all for today folks... you'all come back now hear!

You are certainly not crazy to let your boys race since really, it isn't your choice. Hope they have a great year racing and I would say to them break a leg, but under the circumstances and the bones they have already broken, I will just say good luck. Have a good weekend beautiful.

I enjoy hearing about your memories of your dad.....he sounds like he was a wonderful dad to you and i am sorry you lost him so young. I think it is cool you have an interest in your children, no matter what sport they are in.

I SOOOOOOOOO understand the Motorcross thing!!!!! TOTALLY. And yes, people think we are insane for letting our kids do these crazy things, but we are moms and we know what we are doing! (lol) I'm looking forward to move racing pictures!!

That story about your dad was.....so sad and so scary. You were so young and that was alot to go through. I think it's true though....it made you into the strong, confident, medically efficient woman that you are today!

Have fun with your Pam's today!!

((hugs))
