See I wasn't kidding...

Three days after valley residents endured record-breaking temperatures well into the triple digits - the high temperature in Palm Springs on Monday was a scorching 113 degrees - the Santa Rosa mountains above La Quinta were blanketed with fresh snow. The high temperature in Palm Springs barely reached 80 degrees on Thursday.

Such a switch can happen, said Mark Moede, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in San Diego. "But it is nevertheless pretty unusual to go from extremely hot weather to windy to - I guess the folks in the valley would call it kind of cold."

The National Weather Service tracked something even more extreme Thursday: a tornado near March Air Reserve Base.
